sheetrock paper bubbling?
I have recently removed wallpaper from my kitchen walls with the intent to paint. The wallpaper came off surprisingly easy, but uncovered walls that looks like the sheetrock was hung inside out. There were a few spots where I need to patch with Spackle. After spackling I noticed that certain areas of the sheetrock paper were bubbling up under the spackle. ( Like a sticker with air bubbles) Once it dried I tried cutting out the bad spots and re patching, but it only bubbled up again. My fear now is, the more i cut and patch the worse it will get and once the rest of the wall gets "wet" from the paint it's going to happen all over the place. Has anyone ever heard of this and does anyone know of something I can do to prevent it? ( I was thinking of spraying the wall with hairspray or something of the sort to try to protect it)
if it's the wallboard and not the wallpaper backing then you need to prime the wall, but only use an oil based primer. it will seal whatever is bubbling. water based primer may work but i've had it fail in the past. the oil never did. then you can patch and paint the wall.
