Under The Sea Wall Mural

This mural transformed my daughters’ room and we are very pleased with the results. However, the installation required a lot of effort and advanced planning. My mother is an experienced wall paper-er and she came over to help me. (Thanks, Mom!) Because our wall was smaller than the mural, it took an hour to lay out all of the pieces and make decisions about where we would start the mural and where the windows would be cut out. We spent another hour prepping the surface, reading directions, gathering materials, etc. The paste is included, but you will need a bucket for the paste and a bucket for clean water, a paste brush, a wide wall paper smoother brush, a good pair of scissors, a very sharp utility knife, a whisk for mixing paste, a step ladder, a sponge, and several towels/rags. Since the paper is quite wide, you may need to apply the paste on plastic sheeting on the floor since a typical table will be too narrow. We spent another four hours installing the paper (several window cutouts made it more time consuming). The pattern requires that you overlap the paper to match the images; this leaves a bit of a ledge, but it doesn’t bother us at all.

We cut out the fish that were removed because of the windows and applied them to other walls in the room. This turned out great because the images are on all four walls instead of just the one.

The mural comes in 8 panels. Instead of being long and skinny, they are short and wide. Four panels go across the top and four panels go below them. It is difficult to match both the vertical edge and the horizontal edge simultaneously.

Know that you will definitely need 2 people to accomplish the task; I could not have done it alone. However, the paper is great quality, the mural is beautiful and we love the results.
