If you've ever shared a home or apartment, you know that some people are extremely neat and others care nothing at all about neatness . Nearly all of us are somewhere in the middle of the two. However important neatness is to us, most of us need to be on time, and we can agree that messy closets can be an enemy of punctuality . So, if you want to save wasted time, try organizing your closets as follows .
1. Organize everything in your closets in three piles . Then, do some serious thinking . Which things do you rarely use ? Put them in pile number one. Then, discard them or, even better, give them away to someone who can use them . If you are emotionally attached to a shirt from high school or college, store it someplace else. The other two piles are easy. Make a pile for clothing and accessories for the current season and a third pile for the next season.
2. Get the "next season" items out of the closet. Put them where they won't be in the way, perhaps in a box under your bed. It's a very old college student trick .
3. Use your hangers smartly . Think of categories. Pants should go with pants; shirts with shirts . You'll save time and space if every type of clothing has its own area of the closet.
4. Put up shelves in your closets. Clothing on shelves is neater and easier to find. And, inexpensive, easy to assemble shelves can be found easily.
Anyone can improve their closets . You don't need a graduate degree. All it takes is a little bit of thought and time ...time you'll get back many times over.
