Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Tile Your Stairs

There may come a time in the life of a homeowner when they flirt with the idea of tiling their stairs. It may be the case that they have tiles of the ground floor of the home and want the stairs to match. It may also be the case that they have it in mind that they are going to tile the whole house, not just the stairs.

Carpets are well and truly out of vogue at the minute. It is dirty, unhygienic and difficult to maintain. Here’s why it may be a bad idea to tile your stairs when replacing the carpeting.

1. Tile can be slippery

Even when tiling isn’t wet, it can still be extremely slippery. Stairs can be dangerous as it is, without the added slippery factor. You increase your risk of falling when you implement slippery surfaces in your home. This becomes even more important when you have young children in your home. They will struggle to get up and down the stairs as it is, without the added danger of a slippery surface.

2. Tile can crack

It is not unheard of for stairs to flex due to the way that they are constructed. This flexing means your tiles will be vulnerable to cracking. All home owners will be able to imagine what a nightmare this would be. No home owner wants the hassle of replacing a cracked tile. This can be time-consuming and expensive.

The article has outlined two strong arguments as to why you shouldn’t tile your stairs. If you are intent on replacing the carpet on your stairs, then why not go for wood. Wood will not wear out and it will give your stairs a great effect.

It can also be implemented quite economically. The flooring in your home should be in-sync with your own personal tastes.
