When it comes to designing a bedroom, the bed has a huge role to play. In fact the bedding on the bed has a really big role to play, bigger than you think. Let’s look at just a few major points about the major features and functions that bedding plays in your bedroom. In fact, these major considerations are what real interior designers consider on eat of their design jobs, and a lot more too.
The first thing is the actual design of the bedding itself and let's only look at three design considerations. First is whether or not it will serve as the focal point of the room. The focal point of most bedrooms is the bed and what dresses the bed up is the bedding that is on that, so it really is a big deal.
Second is the softness and warmth. Softness and warmth in this case has nothing to do with touch, but with the visual ability of the bedding to create a relaxing appearance. So a big concern of bedding is how can it make you want to lay down and just relax and sleep.
Third is to continue the theme of the room. Every room has a design theme and the bedding needs to continue that theme so it does not stick out like a sore thumb.
After design you have function which is more about what you would be used to when you are talking about bedding. The first major thing about function is how the fabric that serves as filler or outer fabric feels against your skin. So whether it's silk sheets or other high end materials like bamboo or many you would prefer something more simple like cotton bedding. All of these fabrics, and every fabric for that matter, has a feel that is all it's own and unique.
Second you have temperature control. This is the most important and if you want the best then you have to chose silk or bamboo sheets. But you have find a fabric that keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Pest control and dust is a third, major, consideration. It's not pleasant to think about, but dust mites, molds, and more can grow in your sheets and really rage up your allergies and even asthma. There really is no way around it, the only bedding fabrics that can fight back are the luxury bedding materials such as silk or bamboo that we have mentioned before.
In this article, we have only covered two dimensions of bedding... more will definitely follow in another article. So the next time you are out purchasing some bedding for your bedroom, use this as a checklist of the things that you have to cover to get what you need.
