Don’t be Afraid to Use Vibrant Colors in Your Home

Do you often feel that something is lacking when you walk into your home? Do things just seem to look dull, flat, and a little boring? Often people mistakenly choose to design their homes using white, beige, brown, and other bland, monotonous colors. For personality and interest, a room needs to have some color. Whether you choose to add little splashes here and there or big bold accents, color can really change the way you look at your home.

A home should always show some personality. You want the décor to be vibrant and to attract the eye. By adding lifeless colors such as beige and white, you do nothing to spark interest. This doesn’t mean you need to use colors like bright red and passionate purple. However, a few great colors can really liven up the place. Here are some great colors tips to help you transform your home from drab to dramatic.

Transform the Walls
If you’re looking to make a big transformation while adhering to a budget, painting the walls is a great way to go. Before you do anything at all, however, you first need to determine what colors will be used in the furnishings and accents. After all, you want all the colors to complement or contrast one another. Consider bright greens, peaches, yellows, and blues if you love springtime hues. Hang a botanical print on that spring green wall to add a cheeriness to the room that is hard to ignore.

A great approach is to paint only one or two walls, leaving the rest white. What this does is add depth and dimension to the room. Paint the baseboards with either a contrasting color or a much deeper shade of that same color.

Floors Are for More Than Just Walking!
When decorating their home, people often forget to include the flooring in the big picture. Can wood floors, tile, or carpet be dressed up? Of course they can. A wood or tile floor looks great when topped with brightly colored accent rugs in strategic areas. Just be sure you’re choosing patterns that reflect the rest of your décor. Go with whatever suits your decorating style, whether it’s florals, plaids, abstracts, or geometrics. If you have carpeting in your home, you can still use those area rugs. The rugs can be placed in front of the couch in the center of a furniture grouping where you often entertain.

What About Furnishings?
This is where the fun really begins. People are often afraid to mix and match patterns. However, if you have a floral sofa containing bright hues of green, yellow, and blue, it’s perfectly acceptable to add striped and plaid throw pillows containing the same colors. You’ll be amazed by the result, which is simply stunning. You can also get a big bold splash of colors with some throws or tapestries. If you have solid-colored furniture, then use large throw pillows or blankets with loud patterns. You might even hang a brightly colored quilt over the back of the sofa.

The key to bringing energy to a dull look is color and pattern. So get going and use your imagination, incorporating all the colors you love. So grab some paint, a few area rugs, some throw pillows and tapestries, and other accents, and get started!

Color allows you to add personality and energy to your home without spending a lot of money. For very little cost, you can completely transform the look and atmosphere of a room. Ultimately, big splashes of color offer lots of bang for your buck. Go ahead! With a little daring, you’ll never enter a boring room in your home again.
