Graphic design has been part of early civilization in caves, palaces and textile. It was popularized during the advent of printing and the recent explosion of visual communication and advertising. Since then, graphic design has always been a combination of text and imagery. In the beginning it was done through any surface, stones, walls, textile and paper. Jobs in graphic design back then were limited and not lucrative. Graphic design and the skills required were limited and applicable to print media hence there was confusion on the difference between graphic design and fine arts. The concept of advertising and mass communication plays a big role in identifying the difference between the two.
